Our curriculum
Thoughtfully created for young learners
Our curriculum facilitates social-emotional learning and acquiring mental health knowledge and skills that will serve children and youth both in and out of the classroom. Fledge may assist children in learning about and/or acquiring skills to increase awareness of their emotions, understand and consider different ways of coping with challenging situations, interactions, and emotions, apply their knowledge and understanding of mental health concepts, gain skills for focusing attention, and practice mindfulness.
How it works
Four key areas of growth
To facilitate this learning, the Fledge curriculum covers four subject areas for wide-ranging understanding of mental wellbeing:
Emotional Regulation
Students learn how we can communicate and interact with others effectively. They practice strategies for self and co-regulation, and setting boundaries for healthy relationships.
Stress & Anxiety
Students learn information about our stress and anxiety responses and practice strategies to use to regulate our nervous systems and manage the effects of anxiety.
Focus & Attention
Students learn how we can be present, focus, and pay attention to ourselves and our environment. They practice strategies for mindfulness, and calming the body and mind to be able to focus.
Social Interactions
Students learn information on how we can communicate and interact with others effectively. They practice strategies for self and co-regulation, and setting boundaries for healthy relationships.
Three core categories
Within each subject area, there are 5 lessons or exercises for each category: Body, Breathe, & Brain.
Body
activities include strategies that relate to the body. This could look like a physical movement exercise, yoga pose, or anything that draws upon any of our body’s 5 senses.
Breathe
activities use the benefits of breathing to regulate our nervous systems. This includes a variety of breathwork techniques, as well as some mindfulness and meditation exercises.
Brain
lessons include concepts that require some cognitive processing. They are progressive & sequential in nature and scaffold learning of a specific idea in a multi-step format.
Outcomes
Connected to key learning outcomes
Each activity on the Fledge platform is connected to curricular learning outcomes in an effort to both assist educators with incorporating learning outcomes into their social-emotional learning activities, as well as ensure the Fledge is aligned with provincial learning standards.
